It profusely rained as I sped to church for 8am sound check. I was driving on the freeway and only observed exit signs and other vehicles through my peripheral view... as I applied "Drama Queen" mineral eyeshadow. <Judgement free zone, remember.>
Suddenly, my sporty, 2-door Roadster [yes, this is the car mentioned in Bye Bye My Love] hydroplaned, and the makeup brush was thrust from my hand. The car violently spun out of control, moving from the far left lane into the swampy, grassy middle section that parted the freeway.
I was numb. I couldn't respond. I didn't have time to construct a fancy prayer. I didn't have the ability to take control of the situation. I only saw my daughter's face flash before me... as if she wasn't sitting next to me.
Subconsciously, I chanted, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!" As I shouted the last "Jesus" , the car stopped spinning. My car had gone between a vacant car in the median and a steel pole. I was literally in unbelief that Cailey [then 3] and I were okay.
I immediately texted the praise team leader to alert her that I had been in an accident, then called roadside assistance... assuming I was stuck and there was damage to the car.
After about a minute of quietly sitting there, I put the car into drive, eased onto the median, then safely drove to church. Other than the car being covered in mud and grass, there was no damage to the car. Cailey and I didn't suffer any injuries and were safe. It was truly a miracle!
Why did I share this story?
To encourage you to...
No matter how shaken your situation becomes, never loose faith, hope, and confidence in our Creator! He covers and protects us through the storms of life. Although I called on "Jesus", I yet assumed there was damage.
Do we self-impose damage on a situation that He has already healed?
Don't wait for an epiphany to fall from the sky. The storm is over. Put your life in drive and mash your foot on the gas! Stop sitting there waiting for roadside assistance to rescue you, when you've already been rescued.
Do we sit idle when there's nothing stopping us from moving forward?
To conclude the story... on my way home, I passed the area of the earlier occurrence. Now on the opposite side of the freeway. Before getting the exact point, I saw police cars and an ambulance. Unfortunately, someone else had an accident there.
NOTE: Everyone will not have the same outcome through similar points in life. Be grateful for the grace and mercy that has been shown to you. Don't take it lightly!
How did you overcome your storm? I'd love to hear your tips!
